Bakery Shop Manager - Dear Grain

Description

Dear Grain is a modern bakery on a mission to return bread and pastry to its rightful place in our lives.  Using best-in-class production processes, our high-hydration sourdough breads are made with heritage grains and slow-fermented for up to 48 hours.  Dear Grain currently operates 2 retail stores, provides our products through wholesale channels in the Southern Ontario region. 

The Bakery Shop Manager will oversee the full operation of our Bakery Shop on Roncesvalles Avenue. Their primary focus will be to ensure an amazing and hospitable experience for all customers, and leading the in-store team in its execution of products which are made on site. Ultimately this individual will be accountable for the financial performance of the bakery shop, which includes total revenue growth, managing a small team (Front of House and Back of House) and maintaining an efficient operation that minimizes waste. This individual will report to Company Founders and play an integral role in the long term growth and success of the brand.

Responsibilities:

Customer & Community Experience 
  • Leading by example to deliver an incredible experience for all customer and community members 
  • Build a network of promoters in the business community on the Ossington & Queen West Communities 
  • Oversee in-store merchandising to showcase our products and drive financial performance 
Product Quality & Curation 
  • Ensure that our back of house team is executing our product recipes to the highest standard, with the support of our Head Baker, Pastry Chef. This includes execution of freshly baked pastries, sandwiches, pizzas and 
  • Curate and merchandising of 3rd party products in our shop
  • Support standing relationships with current supplier and developing new relationships with suppliers
Team Leadership 
  • Build a productive and happy team through effective hiring, training, feedback and communication, leveraging our centralized HR systems
  • Oversee all business and employment regulations in compliance with Ontario’s standards.
  • Act as buffer or assign other staff members to fill-in for any sick or absent staff members when necessary.
  • Schedule and manage payroll in coordination in support of our HR team 
Store Operations 
  • Ensure in-house POS and Inventory management procedures are being followed by all team members and that information is accurately reported to our central finance department 
  • Manage an optimized and efficient ordering processes
  • Knowledge of Health, Safety and Food Handling Practices- ensuring they are upheld
  • Implement checks and controls related to inventory management and product access that minimize wastage, theft and other forms of loss 
  • Keep the store in an excellent condition of cleanliness and merchandising
Requirements:
  • Minimum 2 years in Food Retail Management 
  • Barista / Coffee making experience is an asset 
  • Smart Serve Certification is an asset 
  • Experience or knowledge in Bakery Retail or Sourdough Bread Production 
  • Passionate about food and committed to a best in class customer experience.
  • Direct and honest communicator; team player.
  • Detail oriented 
  • Full Time availability.

Availability & Compensation: 
  • Full Time- Early morning and weekend availability required.
  •  Compensation $22 to $25 per hour depending on the experience
  • This position also participates in gratuities provided by customers, according to our tip allocation policy, as well as variable compensation related to the top line success.

Compensation

$22.00 - $25.00 per hour
